Sonen Capital Earns its Highest Score Yet in B Corp Recertification

Sonen Capital has been a certified B Corp since February 2015, and recertified in 2018 and 2022. The B Corp community includes companies like Patagonia, Warby Parker, Seventh Generation and Athleta, Inc.

What is a Certified B Corporation?

Certified B Corporations – or B Corps – are businesses that meet the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. These for-profit companies use the power of their businesses to build a more inclusive, equitable and sustainable economy. A B Corp certification can help consumers identify trusted companies with verifiable impact, and it can help investors select firms that align with their values.

What does it take to become B Corp certified?

To become B Corp certified, a company must not only demonstrate, measurable, positive impact – they must also stand behind it. The B Corp assessment measures a businesses performance across five key categories – governance, workers, customers, community and the environment – using credible, independent and verifiable standards of social and environmental performance.(1) The process is holistic and not focused on a single social or environmental issue. In addition, the process to achieve and maintain certification is rigorous and requires engaging teams and departments throughout a company. Ultimately, the process assesses the impact of a company’s day-to-day operations and their business model – both what we do, and how we do it.

There are currently over 4000 Certified B Corporations in more than 70 countries and in over 150 industries.(2) Over 150,000 companies have taken the B Corp Assessment(3), with an average score of 51.(4) A company must score a minimum of 80 points on the assessment in order to become a B Corp, and the score is recertified every 3 years.(1)
